The moon lit the following path through the mountainside, followed by the sound of armoured plates clinking together, and the shuffle of feet that spoiled the seren, surrounding countryside. Centarus, of the house Despana, peered through his telescope -- a precious and rare gift from the Kurzick ambassador. Although it was pointless -- they where in the middle of a forest, it still made him look professional, and thusly gave a morale boost to the surrounding men (at least those who did not think he was an idiot).

A sharp whizzing tore through the air, as Centarus fell to the floor with a arrow sticking out of his throat. Blood frothed out of his mouth as he gurgled a cry of anguish, and the surrounding troops where thrown into dissaray.

"GOBLINS!" a seasoned warrior cried, examining the arrowshaft, and the regiment "first born" circled together, shields raised high to block from more oncoming arrows.

silence followed, for several "hour long" seconds. The men stared out to the surrounding woodland, the more inexperienced with their eyes wide in fear. Then a scream broke the tension as a black cloud of arrows flew into the shield wall, tearing their way through steel and flesh alike. Men fell to the armour piercing arrows, and the first goblin hoard made their melee ambush.

Ickathus, also of the house despana, resumed control of the regiment in the madness. He had watched his brother drop to the floor, and withdrew his short sword from its resting place. Using his small circular shield, he barged into one of the first goblin ambushers to peer through the thick foilage, then followed with an uppercut of his blade. the thick, dark, green skin of the small, black eyed and long eared creature was suddenly stained a violent purple as the blade connected with an artery. The arrow hail had stopped, presumably so the Goblin Melee force would not get cut down by their own sharp shooters. By this time the path was swarmed by goblins, the colours of red, purple and dark green dominating Ickathus's line of sight.

He ducked as a thin rapier blade sliced the air above his head, returning the blow with a hack at his attackers knees, the goblin buckled, and he sharply pulled his knee to connect with the goblins jaw bone as he came back up of the floor, hacking at the corpse. He then spun around and held his shield up high to parry an oncoming blow, then stabbed sharply into the stomach, drenching his armour in dark purple.

A sharp sensation of pain filled his body, and his vision blurred. Behind him, a sharp shooter had landed a arrow in his shoulder joint. gritting his teeth, he ripped the arrowshaft out and crushed it in his hand, then continued in the onslaught, before another arrow connected between his shoulder blades.

He stumbled to his knees, but still he fought, even as the hungry goblin attackers swarmed over him, hacking and slicing at the fallen body. He took down a good 40 goblins in his death, and even as the final dagger was plunged into his throat he roared onwards, before finally, he died.
